چکیده

Abstract Polyimide aerogels have excellent thermal and mechanical properties, resulting in various applications, especially insulation areas. However, the conventional methods for directly producing aerogel blocks can be time-consuming expensive due to long-term solvent exchange drying. This study developed two alternative techniques, adding dimethyl sulfoxide epoxy into polyimide particles consolidating them obtain PI or stock shapes. approach reduced cycle time of process by nearly 60% compared obtained Samples with look promising appearance properties shapes made directly. The compression test shows that improves property compressive strength at 10% strain 18%. In same context, samples using as a exhibit higher stability porosity when These techniques provide range good prepared from particles.

Aerogel waveplates.

Optical transmission measurements were made on 98% porosity silica aerogel samples under various degrees of uniaxial strain. Uniaxially compressed aerogels exhibit large birefringence, proportional to the amount of compression, up to the 15% strain studied. The birefringence is mostly reversible and reproducible through multiple compression-decompression cycles. Our study demonstrates that unia...

Development of polyimide flexible tactile sensor skin

We present the development of a polyimide-based two-dimensional tactile sensing array realized using a novel inverted fabrication technique. Thermal silicon oxide or Pyrex R © substrates are treated such that their surfaces are OH group terminated, allowing good adhesion between such substrates and a spun-on polyimide film during processing through what are suspected to be hydrogen bonds that c...

Optofluidic microchannels in aerogel.

We report optofluidic waveguides made by filling microchannels in aerogel with water. The aerogel cladding is a nanoporous material with an extremely low refractive index of ~1.05, giving a large index step from the water core. Channels were formed by removing embedded optical fibers, which could be nonuniform or multiple. The porosity of the aerogel allowed air to be displaced from the channel...

He-a in Aerogel

Glass states formed in the superfluid 3 He confined in aerogel are discussed. If the short range order corresponds to the A-phase state, the glass state is nonsuperfluid in the long wave length limit. The superfluidity can be restored by application of a small mass current. Transitions between the superfluid and nonsuperfluid glass states can be triggered by small magnetic field and by the chan...
